Cliff
Shelby
Cliff Shelby looks at the outdoors differently. Some folks might even
say from the bottom up. Perhaps it’s from the bottom of a cold river
with his waders full of water. Or looking up from a creek bottom at his
overturned canoe. Maybe from a stuck and high centered 4WD in a swampy
river bottom or while doing a "one-legger" down to the deep bottom of a
moose track in a swampy lake in Canada. He sees things with a humorous
flair and likes to draw cartoons about outdoor people and things.
A resident of Flippin Arkansas, for over 20 years, Cliff has spent
his professional life working in advertising and public relations.
Following a tour of duty in the Strategic Air Command, he studied at the
School of the Art Institute of Chicago and later received a BS degree
from Louisiana Tech University in illustration and advertising design
with a marketing minor.
He has drawn the "Harry ‘N’ Charlie" cartoons for BASSMASTER magazine
since 1971 and is also a freelance writer, photographer and illustrator.
He has handled award winning advertising and product photography as well
as outdoor press relations for both Bagley Bait Co. and Ranger Boats.
Cliff and his computer graphic designer wife, Karen, work from their
home office. They have years of design, illustration, cartoon,
photography, copy writing, advertising and marketing experience. Using
these talents, they specialize in design, art and materials supporting
the outdoor industries, as well as working with a diversified group of
clients including industrial manufacturers, retailers and financial
institutions producing brochures, logos, package designs, and
point-of-purchase displays.
Their
company, C. Shelby Communications & Design, is a
Southeastern
Outdoor Press Association (SEOPA) Corporate Member, Cornerstone
Corporate Member of the
Professional Outdoor Media Association (POMA) and Corporate Member
of
Western Outdoor Writers (WOW). Cliff is a Charter
Chairman of the Board for the Outdoor Journalist Education Foundation of
America (OJEFA). He served as Past President
